linking catogories

I’m sorry for asking what must sound like a very stupid question but I know very little about word press and PHP, So little in fact I meant to buy an HTML template and ended up with a word press template lol.

so here is where I am at, I have installed the template after a few false starts started adding my own content how ever I have run in to a problem, What I would like to do is have my category side bar link to static pages (just like an HTML website) I would also like to be able to create static pages that can be linked to from this category sidebar.

Is this possible (I’m sure it is I just have no idea how to do it) if it is can any one tell me how to do it?
