Support » Plugin: Memphis Documents Library » Link to an individual file

Is there a way to link to an individual file in mdocs? For example, I have a page which is called Files. It simply has the mdocs shortcode and displays the files I have published for everyone. However, on another page I have some information and I refer them to download a file. I would like to link to that file via the Mdocs so that way it shows how many times it was downloaded, ratings, etc rather then just a plain old link to the file that is standard with WordPress. I know I can use the category shortcode but that would list multiple files in that category which do not apply for this page.

Yes, if you click on the share button u will have two option one is goto post link the other is direct download. Choose direct download.

Where would I find this share link you are referring to? I have looked all over and I do not see this. On my page I have the text similar to this.

If you would like to download our brochure please click the following link:
    2016 Brochure.pdf

When editing the page in WordPress I just click the Add Media Button and choose the file that has already been uploaded to my media library. I don’t see anywhere where I can choose Share or link to the file as it exist in Memphis docs.

Have you disabled the share button from settings, it should be there

Yes I just found where I disabled it and now I see where if I am in Memphis Docs and choose Share it provides me two options of direct link or download link. However, when I go back to my page and use this link instead, it still looks like my old link looks such as it does not have the ratings, number of downloads, etc.

In addition I notice when I create a new document in Memphis Docs it shows scheduled. How long should this appear as scheduled? It seems I have to wait several hours before it is available and appears in the Memphis docs list.

Then use the other link, the goto post link. A link is a link it doesn’t contain any ratings info etc.

As for schedule check your wordpress settings your time zone is wrong .

Thanks for the info on the linking.

On the schedule I checked my timezone in General Settings and it shows New York and I am on Eastern time so it appears correct and the time it shows is the current time. Would it be because my hosting provider is on a different timezone and their servers may show a 3 hour time difference?

It’s a possible that is the case. You should check the server time as well

I have checked with my hosting provider and they have informed me that their actual server times are on a different time zone (MST) then eastern. However, they said if your software is placing it on a schedule and basing it from their server time vs WordPress time, then it would be an issue or possible bug with your software.

I’ll take a look and get back to you

I took a look at my code, and I will confirm again that mdocs times are based on the WordPress default time. Meaning that if you have set you time correctly in WordPress it should display the right time.

Any word yet on the time issue? As mentioned, when I upload Docs it takes a few hours before they appear. They show as Scheduled for about 2 hours before they can be used.

There is a setting that will allow you to adjust timezone offset try that out.

Is there a shortcode to display the “Goto Post” page? I would like to include what I see on the “Goto Post” page in another page. I was hoping the [mdocs single-file=”Enter the file name.”] shortcode would work for what I’m trying to do. Using that shortcode all I ever get is a “No files found in this folder.” message.

This is the actual “Goto Post” page: https://ks-aa.org/mdocs-posts/2017-q1-spring-grape-free-press/

Here are the shortcode configurations I have tried to no avail:
[mdocs single-file=”2017 Q1 Spring Grape Free Press”]

    [mdocs single-file=”/mdocs-posts/2017-q1-spring-grape-free-press/”]

    [mdocs single-file=”https://ks-aa.org/mdocs-posts/2017-q1-spring-grape-free-press/”%5D

Here is the page with those shortcodes: https://ks-aa.org/test-current-document/

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can’t show more than one post per page. You can link to as many post as you like using the share button. If you click the share button you will be presented with 2 links. One is the direct download the other is the link to the post page.

You could take the post page link and at it to any post or page you want.

So, what does the [mdocs single-file=”Enter the file name.”] shortcode do, and how should it be used?
