Link problem for mailto: and file:

    @johankosters

    I want to use the link section in the sitebar to quick access other information. (Add Link)

    Adding a link works file, however I would like to access a document on the server (file:) or start send e-mail request. (mailto:).

    WordPress automatically adds http:// to the link which results in http://file://mydrive:/path/word.doc

    Some ideas to achieve my functionally?

  • This is something I too would like to see. For the mailto part. I’ve searched and never really seen a solution. Hopefully this time someone will have an answer. If there is one, that is, which there might not be.

    It’s helpful to know what version of WordPress we’re talking about:

    1.5.x:

    2.0.x:

    Note that mailto: should already work. If it doesn’t, please note the exact version of WordPress you have.

    Thnx for the response. It does what it should do, however not what I need.. 🙂

    Reading the details, seems I have found a non functionallity thing and even Firefox is into the problem asd well!

    What i would like to have…

    I would like to add quick access ‘office documents from a server’ to the sidebar in categories like links. i.e. the user clicks the document and Word is started. Like it is possible on a html page.

    Does someone have an idea to realise this?
