• on the dashboard I click on the links button and add new link. Since it is an external page I don’t want them to leave my site so I click the radio button under target for _blank. Save my choices, go back to my site to try it out and click the link. It still opens in same window. I’m new at this just started on my wordpress page tonight but I don’t see why it is not working correctly.

    Any help would be appreciated

  • Gregor,
Ofcourse you did refresh your site after editing to test the effect. But still, Firefox can be very stubborn. So close your browser and reopen and open your site and have a try.

Thanks for answering but that’s not it I’m afraid, I’m using chrome and checked it in IE also still not opening in new tab. I’m new to WordPress and cant seem to find the file where the links are kept or I would go in and just add it myself. As it is I have to depend on the dashboard to do it and it does not seem to want to do it right, or I’m doing something the wrong way.

It’s in the database in the table wp_links as field link_target and value _blank
What do you see when you click view source in IE from your site? Is there a target mentioned?

Note: does it work when you select blank for a link in a post?
