Link icon missing on Image blocks

    I’m creating my site offline, so there’s no page to visit. I’ve been searching the forums and the WP documentation, and there looks like there’s supposed to be a link icon next to the 5 alignment icons (L/center/R/wide/full) in an image block, but that doesn’t appear for me.
    All I have is the sidebar Block/Link Settings/Link To popup menu (none/media file/attachment page/custom URL). The only one of these that allows me to change the link address is the custom URL.
    I’m trying to link a subpage (I presume that would be the “attachment page” option), but there’s no list of my other pages to choose from.
    Although I can’t seem to figure out which themes are version 5 compatible, I’m pretty sure the “twenty nineteen” theme is, so that’s the one I’m using just to see if I can get the icon to appear (I switch because the icon wasn’t appearing in “twenty sixteen,” but that’s probably not compatible with the new stuff).
    Any ideas why the icon doesn’t appear?

    Yeah, I mentioned that in my 2nd paragraph, but I can’t figure out how to connect a sub-/child page to the image.

    When I’m searching through the theme galleries, how can I tell if it’s v5 compatiable? The Details & Preview hover link doesn’t seem to provide that info.

    what do you mean by a sub-/child page?

    Select “custom URL” and paste in the URL to which you want the image to link.

    Most themes should work with the block editor.

    Let’s say I have three pages:
    home
    topic1
    topic2

    I want one image on “home” to link to the “topic1” page and another image on “home” to link to the “topic2” page.

    Yeah, exactly. I’m not sure what the issue is — put those URLs in the field created when you select “custom URL”. For home, just put in /.

    I don’t know what the urls would be, because I don’t know the name of the file(s) that store the WP pages. I can’t find anything in the WP folder with the names I’ve given the “subpages.”

    Look at the page on your site. Copy/paste the URL.

    That won’t work, as I’m building my site offline with MAMP. I’d have to change every link when I put in online. Is there a way to use a link that’s relative to the page on which the link appears rather than a full, direct link?

    I still don’t understand why the link icon doesn’t appear where the WP support pages show it appearing.

    You can use a relative link. It will resolve correctly.

    Ah. I’d read in another support file that relative links weren’t supported.

    Any idea why the link icon doesn’t appear, though? Is the following info outdated?
