# 'Link' button doesn't work

 * After an inadvertent update from 3.5.1 to 3.5.2 I’ve encountered a number of
   problems with the compose new post window.
 * Some problems were resolved with adding a line to the config file [(see last night’s thread which I hijacked)](http://wordpress.org/support/topic/missing-visual-edit-buttons-cannot-type-in-text-box?replies=17#post-4358674)`
   define('CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS', false);` deleting the cache, logging out and relogging
   back in.
 * Things seem to work except that the LINK function seems broken. If you click
   on LINK (with text highlighted) you get a lightbox/takeover screen which makes
   further editing impossible. There seems to be no way out except for closing the
   page and hoping autosave got the stuff you were working on.
 * I see in the old thread a recommendation about disabling all plugins, selecting
   WP default themes and then activating a custom theme if any.
 * I am very leery of this since I suspect it might overwrite all our Thesis theme
   custom config files. What to do?

 * Have you tried:
 * – deactivating **all** plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works,
   re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
 * – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause
   problems.
 * – re-uploading all files & folders – **except** the wp-content folder – from
   a **fresh** download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of
   files & folder before uploading the new ones.
 * Your theme will be quite safe as long as you do not touch the wp-content folder.
