    Hi Guys,

I’m in the process of comparing SEO plugins for use on up to 12 websites and I’ve narrowed the choice down to two: Rank Math and a Well Known Other (WKO).

I note in your Readme that you say Rank Math has 30K lines of code compared with 50K+ for other plugins which immediately struck me as a major factor in favor of Rank Math.

But not being one for taking things at face value, I did some testing of my own using 3 widely available tools. Just going on the lines of code (ignoring comments, spaces etc) and without using any command line parameters, this is what I found:

Testing Tool | Rank Math | WKO
    --------------|--------------|----------
    SCC | 70733 | 54370
    Tokei |	73603 | 56672
    Cloc |	63645 | 51995

The most recent versions of RM and WKO were used with both being downloaded from wp.org.

So that obviously came as a bit of a disappointment as I’d always considered WKO as quite bloated.

I’m just wondering where I’ve gone wrong? What method do you use to count the number of lines in RM and can I subsequently use that same method to count the number of lines in the WKO plugin?

    Thanks very much.

    Hello @woopee

Thank you for contacting the support.

This is how we do the calculations by using the following command:
    cloc ./ --exclude-dir=.git,tests,vendor --exclude-ext=scss,sass,babelrc,codeclimate.yml,csscomb.json,editorconfig,eslintrc,gitattributes,gitignore,travis.yml,md,txt,lock,json,xml.dist,xml

This excludes all the third-party vendors, including any other nonexecuting files present in the plugin.

    WKO Pro – https://i.rankmath.com/GxC2bR – 54.3k
    WKO Local – https://i.rankmath.com/6RXJRp – 40.5k
    WKO WC – https://i.rankmath.com/W061oe – 1.0k
    ————————————————–
    Total Lines of code 95.8k

    Rank Math – https://i.rankmath.com/cjTv7Y – 32k

We have compared our plugin with the WKO’s premium version as our plugin contains almost all the pro features.

We have not included WKO’s Video and News sitemap add-on as those features are not present in the Rank Math.

Please note: There is a little difference in the number of lines due to a few new updates.

Also, you can use the same method to test other SEO plugins and you will know which one is the lightweight with more features.

Hope this clears the confusion. If there’s anything else, please feel free to let us know.

We are here to reply. Good day.

Thanks for the helpful response. That clears things up nicely.

And just to confirm, when I ran cloc with the above attributes on Rank Math, I too got 32K. When I ran it on WKO (free version), I got 48K. So, in terms of lines of code, RM is significantly smaller than even the free WKO and that’s certainly a big plus for me.

    Thanks again.
