Limiting author to post only one post in all the categories

    I want give my user the cance to post only one article for each category I have.
    When they have posted then they only can modify text or even delete but not add another one in the same category.
    Is it something possible?
    I’ve not found any plugin and I’m willing to modify the core if it’s nnecessary…
