Support » Networking WordPress » Limit size of every childsite

  • Ok, I have found other articles that could help, but I am not sure we are talking about the same thing so I am creating this for clarities sake.

I have a multisite install with several sub-directories. I am trying to limit the total size that each sub-directory can become NOT the size the of a single file being uploaded.

    1. Can I achieve this be going to Network Admin -> Settings -> Upload Settings -> Site Upload Space?
    2. Will that limit the total size of the entire network not of each individual site?
    3. OR… Do I have to go to Network Admin -> Sites -> [Site Name] -> Settings -> Site Upload Space Quota, in order to set this at site level for each site

If anyone can help clear this up for me that would be great!

    Thanks!

  • Hello @krack3,

    1. Can I achieve this be going to Network Admin -> Settings -> Upload Settings -> Site Upload Space?

This sets a default maximum upload limit for EACH sub-site. So if you put, say, 100MB here, each of your sub-sites can upload a total of 100MB.

    2. Will that limit the total size of the entire network not of each individual site?

No, this is for EACH site. So if you have 50 sites total and you set 100MB, you’ve effectively set a limit of 50x100MB = 5GB for the entire network.

    3. OR… Do I have to go to Network Admin -> Sites -> [Site Name] -> Settings -> Site Upload Space Quota, in order to set this at site level for each site

This setting allows you to override the default maximum upload per-site (#1 above) on a site-by-site basis. So you can use this setting to raise the limit of one or more sites, while every other site is limited by the common setting in #1 above.

    I hope that helps.
