LIMIT and Category

  • Im using a slightly dated version of wp-alpha 1.2, hopefully this has changed.
    On my subdirectory index page, I’ve got a category restriction.

    /* Don’t remove these lines. */
    $cat = “3”;
    $blog = 1;
    require(‘../wp/wp-blog-header.php’);

    When this gets run, I get all the posts in category ‘3’, but my Limit per page setting (from Admin/Options) is completely ignored. I get all 140 of my category posts instead of the first 10 posts in that category.
    I’d be nice if you’d be able to specify to use a certain category of posts, and still specify a posting display limit so I dont get an entire year of posts showing on the first page.

  • Well, that’s fine and good, but that isn’t exactly the problem.
    I don’t want to display a single category by default. When a user visits my site, he sees all categories mixed together, which is good, and a limit of 20 posts, also good. When he clicks the “travel” category, every post in the travel category appears, when I would expect there to be only 20.
    Is how it’s working how it’s supposed to work? Or should it be doing what I want it to do? If the former, how to I make it do what I want it to do?
    Incidentally, I would like to include that “paged” doo-dad like you (Beel) have) at the bottom of my page too, whether the full category list is used or an individual category.

    Weird weird weird.
    This was so not working when I posted this. I did change the site to do paged posts. Maybe I didn’t realize that setting up paged posts fixed it? Maybe the default setting is broken? Maybe I’m insane?
    Probably that last one.
    No… You’re right. I don’t have a “travel” category.
