• I am using the latest WordPress and NextGen.

I often use NextGen, and I have compared my settings to previous sites that ARE working. They are the same. But my lightbox results in the following:

    1) The black semi-opaque NextGen background is located in the container where it should be located.

    2) The enlargement appears BELOW that background.

    3) The written description appears below the image.

    4) The “Close” icon appears below the description.

Nothing appears formatted. Instead, every item appears to be floated left below the previous item.

My CSS for the gallery is the same for both the working sites and this non-functioning site, so that does not appear to be the issue. I have literally removed all CSS from my style sheet to see what the result would be (removing all possible conflicts). That did not change anything. Again, every setting in NextGen is identical to my other working sites.

@rowlandville – I would recommend updating all current items on your site and seeing if that sorts out this issue.

It appears you are using an older version of NextGEN Gallery and an older version of WordPress itself …

    Thanks!

Thanks, Cais. I updated both. A new problem has now arisen.

When I click on an image, I get an enlargement on a boring white background. Gone is the black background. I need lightbox for that, yes? But I am not given a lightbox option on the Options tab. Where did it go? How do I get that option back? Is it called something else?

    Thanks.

@rowlandville – Go under Gallery > Other Options > Lightbox Effects to set the library you want to use.

If the Lightbox Effect is no longer working and it is correctly set then there could be a new conflict with your current setup that will need to be addressed.

    Cais,

I don’t have a lightbox option. This is what I am offered: http://rowlandwilliams.com/screen-shot.png

Also, I tried deactivating the other plugins (although these same plugins are on sites that work), but that didn’t help.

@rowlandville – The “Lightbox” Lightbox Effect was removed from NextGEN Gallery as it was not GPL compliant … the other options you are offered are all considered “Lightbox” effects.

Have you tried temporarily switching to a default WordPress Twenty series theme?

    Cais,

I’m using a twenty thirteen child theme.

You mentioned that the other options are considered lightbox effects. I guess I’m really confused. I just want a pop-up effect like the old lightbox. Is there a way to achieve that? Is that gone for good?

    Thank you.

@rowlandville – You can use the “Custom” Lightbox Effects option to implement most any Lightbox library effect … including the “Lightbox” Lightbox library we removed due to GPL incompatibility.

Sorry I fell off map before this was resolved. Client issues.

I went to Options > Lightbox Effects > Custom. It asked for code, stylesheet, and javascript. Where do I go to get that library? Also, why was the GPL incompatible? Will that cause issues on certain platforms?

    Thx.

@rowlandville – The details of what you will need to use in the Custom option for the Lightbox Effects will be relevant to the library you want to use … you would likely be best asking the author of the Lightbox library for those URL.

As to the GPL, this is not the place to discuss the merits or relevance, simply put “WordPress” noted the library was not GPL-compatible and asked us to remove it … we were not aware of the issue but happily complied.
