Support » Plugin: Seriously Simple Podcasting » Libsyn hosted files break on automatic file check

    For a few weeks now we’ve experienced Podcast posts crashing as soon as we enter in our mp3 link (80MB file) from Libsyn and save the post. The error appears to come from the automatic file size check and report Memory issues. If we manually enter a file size everything works fine. I noticed the Simple Podcast Player plugin release this note earlier this week:

    Libsyn made an update recently that has caused some Libysn-hosted podcasts to show “unable to retrieve track data” in your Smart Podcast Player track players. We made quick work and have a fix for that!

    Possibly the error is only with Libsyn files or maybe the file is just too large. Either way can we permanently disable the automatic duration & file size check?

    Hi @contemplate

    Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

    Unfortunately there is no way currently to disable this functionality. I have however created a ticket for it in our GitHub repository, so that we can add it to our plugin development cycle and include it in our next update

    https://github.com/TheCraigHewitt/Seriously-Simple-Podcasting/issues/420

    In the meantime, are you comfortable editing plugin files, to disable this functionality?

    Regards

    Yes @psykro just let me know what files to edit!

    I like your ideas of filters to disable these. I have a lot of clients using Libsyn so will be disabling this on numerous sites.

    in the php/classes/controllers/class-frontend-controller.php

    Edit the public get_file_duration and get_file_size methods by adding

    return false;

    Just after the function declaration.

    eg

    public function get_file_duration( $file ) {
        return false;

    @contemplate version 1.20.11 of the plugin shipped today, which includes two new filters ssp_enable_get_file_duration and ssp_enable_get_file_size. If you return false to these filters, they will disable the default get_file_duration and get_file_size functionality, for externally hosted files.
