 * Open Source surgery to free WordPress 1.5.2 of its security system and replace
it with something simpler that works for me. No holds barred, gory and definately
not for the faint-hearted. Strictly for the avid programming train-wreck rubber-
   necker. You have been warned.
 * Please don’t disturb me while I’m working. I get irritable.

 * Almost done. With a few more minor stitches, the surgery will be complete. After
a bit of spit and polish, the patient will be back on its feet and feeling better
   than ever.
 * Tonight, I expect to have “Liberated WordPress 1.5.2” managing my blog.
 * I’m past the irritating phase of development now, so discussion is invited and
   won’t hurt, I promise!

 * Oh dear! A [major problem has arisen](http://www.libertini.net/libertus/2006/01/15/liberating-wordpress/#responsibility)
   whilst [liberating WordPress](http://www.libertini.net/libertus/2006/01/15/liberating-wordpress/)
and [the development team have had to meet](http://www.libertini.net/libertus/2006/01/15/liberating-wordpress/#feasibility-study)
to discuss it. They have asked for [a manual to be written](http://www.libertini.net/libertus/2006/01/15/liberating-wordpress/#manual)
before they can decide whether to go live. It’s all very exciting, but that means
the changes won’t happen tonight. Very sorry, folks. These things happen.

 * Hey, I can edit my comment! WordPress already does what I want! No fair! 🙂
 * Oh – sequential comments by the same user are editable. Good idea. I hadn’t thought
   of that.

 * Can I have three editable comments? Yes. What is the grace period? Unknown, but
I can watch. What happens if someone else comments?
 * Cool. If you guys are allowing this, why shouldn’t I? Feasibility study over!
   Thanks!
 * MOSHU! Don’t you dare break my monologue. Yes! I can see you. You’re thinking
about it, aren’t you? Oh yes, you want to.
 * Do you want some, Moshu? Do you? Go on then. Break my monologue, if it suits
you. Oh, does it suit you?

 * Just to break your monologue… this is **not** WordPress. This is bbpress > [http://bbpress.org](http://bbpress.org)

 * MODERATOR!!! Moshu broke my monologue! No fair!!!
 * And now, back to the regular programming… I apologishe for the outbursht.
 * — Original comment before the silliness —
    Oh! My mistake.
 * You’re brave to break one of my monologues, but thank you. You have further revealed
the implementation of editable comments chosen by the WordPress guys for an important
forum. I am tussling with the same problem.
 * bbPress looks very interesting. Thank you again.
 * Now, please forgive me.

 * Have I sufficiently illustrated why I care?
 * I really cannot be bothered with sorting out the kind of crap I just caused.
No-one can. So why does the software allow it to happen?

 * Grace period no more than an hour.
 * Now, should a single contiguous sequence of comments by the same person be considered
a single or multiple utterances? Once comment editing is available, is such an
   exuberance necessary?

 * This is making me rethink the entire concept of moderated discussion.
 * You guys are fab!

 * You want editable comments on WP?
Why don’t you say so? [http://code.jalenack.com/archives/edit-comments/](http://code.jalenack.com/archives/edit-comments/)

 * You guys have never met a real geek before? Never seen the software development
process from start to end? You’re so lucky!
 * Moshu, thanks for the link. Yes I want editable comments and shall offer them
to my readers, but only when I have assured myself that to do so if giving them
a useful tool, not a weapon or joke prop.
 * Sushubh & vkaryl, wierd and strange. That’s me. Nice and friendly, too, though.

 * One thing I’ve just noticed that I have to heap praise upon. The referral URLs
to my website from here include a query string with the number of replies to
this comment at the time of referral. That should prove interesting and useful
   into the future.
 * I know it is purely an artefact of the URL structure of this site but I really
like it. What a great idea.
