Leave a comment box not available on password protected posts or pages

  • AFTER a visitor enters the correct password to view the content of a password protected post or page on my blog, the leave a comment box is not available.

    On a password protected page, only the title and body copy display.

    On a password protected post, the title, body copy and following message display: “This post is password protected. Enter the password to view comments.” But there is no place to enter a password, and no links to select.

    I deactivated all of my plugins, but nothing changed.

    I have a customized theme, that someone else created for me.

    Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem or where to find an answer?

    My searches in the help forum turned up lots of interesting stuff, but nothing that was remotely similar to this. If something is out there and I just didn’t think of the correct search term, I’d appreciate your help in finding it.

  • Do you use Brian’s Threaded Comments? I found that I had to change $cookiehash to “cookiehash” without the quotes in order for the comments to show up. I don’t know if this will work for you.

    I found that it was the fault of my template. I am using one based on Blue Mist 1.5 by AOE media GmbH. In the comments.php file I removed the part where it checks the post password with the cookie value.

    It starts with:
    if (!empty($post->post_password)) { // if there's a password

    I replaced it with the default:

    if ( post_password_required() ) { ?>
    		<p class="nocomments">This post is password protected. Enter the password to view comments.</p>
    	<?php
    		return;
    	}
