layout wrong on wp “homepage”

After having published various posts in my wp blog, the layout does not show ok all of a sudden, whereas the detail pages and so on are ok.
It is a standard version (2.0.4) with the sidebar widget installed afterwards. Header, footer are not ok and the sidebar shows at the bottom.

Nothing has been touched (no code or whatsoever).
I have had a look at the forum but cannot find the answer.
