Layout for WordPress and Portal Query

  • Hi,
How easy would it be to use this: http://www.bluerobot.com/web/layouts/layout3.html layout with WordPress.
I guess it should be fairly straight forward but I am completely new to CSS and WordPress and the whole, um, thing.
In addition, how easy would it be to use WordPress as a sort of portal. For example, using the 3 column layout, I would
like RSS feeds from the Inq on the right, Menus and submenus (does wordpress deal with submenus?) for blogs, reviews,
information on projects. Perhaps a link to downloads (could a folder be created in the WordPress folder for downloads and
linked that way?). The centre would provide the 5 latest blogs or posts. Would the topics be able to include animated gifs,
or can I attach any images?
I’m not sure how versatile WordPress is as I use Geeklog at the moment, the only downer with that is the fact you need a
very-little-supported plugin to create sub menus, and the templates are a bit dull. I just want to make sure WordPress is
    ideal for me.
Thanks in advance for any help & advice provided.

  • Sorry. What is a submenu?
I am referring to a TREEed category system.

i used the blue robot template for almost an year with WP.
Need complete overhaul of the index.php
i might have the template with me somewhere not sure… if u want that crappy index i can look for it.

i mean submenu in the most generic context, referring to categories and sections as such. wheter it is treeed or not.
    blog – main
    sub of blog – rants
    sub of rants –
    first post
    second post
    third post
sub – of blog – the weird stuff
sub of the weird stuff –
    first post
    second post
    third post
    hope that makes sense.
@ sushubh: If you can find the index, that would be great. I take it you didn’t like it or found it diffuclt, so if you can suggest a similiair alternative, I would be happy to try it out.
    Thanks again

Well I haven’t found a way to create a submenu or category. I am using WordPress 1.02, so I don’t know if it’s a case of using an old version? I haven’t found, or can see where version 1.2 is – I thought this was what I had installed

i find the code… but its messy :p
    my reason for leaving:
    1. the template was too messed up as I was learning customising the blog.
    2. it had 200+ validation errors.
    3. i used it for more than a year! 😀
