• I’m using the Kubrick theme that uses layout jpgs for the pages – I would like to use the same style with the same side and footer layout design jpgs but I would like to change the header jpg.

Are the any good tutorials on how to create layouts for websites – I’ve been searching the net for a few days now and cannot seem to find a good step by step tutorial on how to make one – yet I see tons of blog sites that have layouts using jpgs.

    Any ideas ??

  • You won’t find tutorials that fit what you want – the area is too broad.

Find a couple of sites you like, and then pull their code apart to see how they did it – if this involves copying anything like images, ask their permission – it’s only polite to do so and they may even help.

Trial and error……it’s the way forward 🙂

It’s not a question of pulling their code apart – I know how to do that just fine – what I need to find out is how to create the graphics for the layout itself like on the boren site http://boren.nu/

I can’t use his layout jpgs if my page width is different – or I have different colours – and if the width was the same, I guess I could use the side and bottom jpgs – but I want to eliminate the top jpg with the blue area – and replace it with one that has a photo in it.

But I don’t know how to go about doing that.

To edit the images in Kubrick, you need to edit the .psd template in Photoshop. This template is organized into “Slices”. Once you choose “Save for Web”, the template is divided into slices and each individual slice is a JPEG that is named correctly. So, edit in Photoshop, save for web (as JPEG), and upload.

So where do I get the .psd template to edit ?

If it’s not included with the Kubrick distro for WP v1.5 (1.3), then you can get it with the original Kubrick distro: http://binarybonsai.com/kubrick/
