  • Hey,

Thank you so much for your feedback.

We’d be happy to help you if you provide us with more information about what report or tooling you used to measure performance.

As for the recent version 1.29.0 we didn’t add such stuff that can directly impact on website page performance.

If you don’t mind one thing I want to add, Site Kit doesn’t add any performance impacting code to a users site, if you check your sites source code before and after installing, activating and setting up Site Kit you’ll notice only one meta tag link added, as below:
    <meta name="generator" content="Site Kit by Google 1.26.0" />

The above snippet does not have any impact on performance. Site Kit is primarily an admin panel operated plugin, allowing for the automatic insertion of various Google product snippets at the users preference, without any manual placement of code.

    Happy Monday!

It is the admin pages that are all slowed down. Disabling the plugin greatly increased the speed of the admin area.

Hi @joshmckibbin, thanks for the response. Great that you brought this up, it sounds like you’ve been doing some testing, which is great to troubleshoot performance related issues. I’d be happy to work with you and help determine what’s occurring, or see if there are any improvements we can made on the admin panel when it comes to performance.

Firstly may I ask are you using any tools to measure performance, or are these delays simply noticeable when browsing through the admin panel, not specifically the Site kit admin panel tab?

If you find the reduced performance are obvious when browsing through your admin panel feel free to share your Site Health information privately via this form. I can then setup a similar environment to your own and perform some additional testing on my side.

Let me know if you have any questions on the above.

    Hi @joshmckibbin,

We’ve received your Site Health information. Many thanks for sharing. While the site referenced in the form in inaccessible it also looks like you have some custom built plugins installed, are there publicly available for testing?

I’m also curious to know when you were doing some performance testing on the admin panel side did you use any measurement tools or were actions you were performing noticeably slower when browsing your admin panel, and not specifically your Site Kit dashboards?

Unfortunately, the custom plugins cannot be made public.

As far as testing, I didn’t use any tools (are there any that you recommend?). I just upgraded the plugin and it made the admin slower so I disabled it and the admin went back to normal. The entire admin slowed down, not just the SiteKit dashboard.

Sorry that I can’t provide more info.

Thanks for the updates. I’ll check this with the team and report back to you here so see what’s expected from Site Kit when navigating the admin panel.

@joshmckibbin Just to keep you updated on this we are still looking at methods of improving the performance of the admin panel where possible. We’ve recently made changes that impact sites with large users while we’re also improving the performance of the Site Kit admin toolbar, which can improve performance for logged in administrators.

Feel free to subscribe to those GitHub issues for further updates. If you would like us to perform some additional performance testing based on your setup and you’re willing to share insights on the custom plugins active feel free to share using the form previously used.
