    Hi Opajaap:

I just tried doing the update to version 4.8.10 and got this message:

Fatal error: Call-time pass-by-reference has been removed in /Users/administrator/Desktop/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/wp-photo-album-plus/wppa-admin-functions.php on line 678

I can't activate the plugin now. I am using WP 3.5 and am working on a site in MAMP. Up til this update the plugin was working perfectly well. Is this peculiar to me or are others experiencing this? Is there a fix?

    Thanks!

I got the same error. WordPress 3.5 and Pagelines 2.3.8 theme. Other active plugins: Akismet, Gallery Plugin, Google Fonts, Nextgen Gallery, Pagelines sections, Post Types Order, Sexy Snips and Simple CSS Lite. Before the update everything was ok.

I commented out line 678 which did allow me to activate the plugin. I have no idea why my site required that. I'm wondering, it wouldn't have anything to do with the settings in Table IX E, Slideshow Elements Sequence Order Settings, would it? I wasn't sure what those were about. The "buttons" say "move up" -- could you tell me what the idea is here? Right now in my MAMP installation the settings are:
    StartStop (Enabled ii-B1)
    SlideFrame (Alwasy) "Move Up"
    NameDesc (Disabled 11-B5,6) "Move Up"
    Custom (Disabled 11-B14) "Move Up"
    Rating (Disabled 11-B7) "Move Up"
    FilmStrip (Disabled 11-B3) "Move Up"
    Browsebar (Enabled 11-B2) "Move Up"
    Comments (Disabled 11B-10) "Move Up"
IPTX, EXIF, Share Box, all disabled with Move ups,
    Swap Namedesc is unchecked
Split name and desc is unchecked

At one point I clicked "Move Up" on one of these - don't remember which one, to see what would happen. I don't remember what happened and I don't know if it caused a problem? If someting is disabled and I click "Move Up" does it do anything?

It was a php thing. I first used sort(&$albums) but i needed asort(), so i changed it in asort(&$albums). asort() does not require call by reference ( the & in &$albums ), but my php did it right without complaining. The sort() operation sorts the albums in album selection boxes in alphabetical order in admin pages.

This was rather confusing for me.

Some php implementations crash on a superfluous &, so did yours.
No problem, i removed the & and now it works, just de-activate, delete and re-install again from the plugins page.

The Move Up buttons change the sequence order of the various boxes in the slideshow display.
