Support » Plugin: Cloudflare » Latest Update breaks Admin Bar

  • Just updated to the latest version of cloudflare plugin. This has made the WP-ADMIN bar disappear when you go to the front of the site. I have tested on multiple sites, and the same effect.

This prevents access for people using front end editors.

This is a blocker! Please fix immediately.

We are aware of the problem. In the next release we will have a smarter way to fix this problem.

You can get more information from this topic: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/anouncement-disabling-admin-bar/

    Thanks

Same problem here. I don’t get the relation of the admin bar with the caching mechanism to be honest.

The fix in the link above worked. Will this be removed on the next update though? This is a non-starter and and we use auto updates for a ton of customers. I don’t want to go fix 100’s of sites every time you update.

At least roll back this change for now until that “intelligent” way is added?

@quantum_leap – If you use full page caching you risk the admin bar showing up in the cached HTML and being shown to non-admin users, this is why it was disabled.

@sitedart – It won’t be rolled back but it will be fixed in the next release so that it the admin bar is only disabled if you have the Automatic Cache Purge toggle enabled.

    Thanks,

How would someone use full page caching? Is there a setting in the plugin? What if a rule is created to exclude the admin from caching? Or even better, the plugin should include that rule when it’s being installed.

How would someone use full page caching?

The user should go to cloudflare.com and add a new page rule themselves. Cache everything can break multiple stuff and the user should know the risks and the benefits before doing it.

Is there a setting in the plugin?

    No

What if a rule is created to exclude the admin from caching? Or even better, the plugin should include that rule when itโ€™s being installed.

This won’t be possible with a rule but it is possible for Enterprise users with “Bypass cache on Cookie”.

Come on! How can you break the WP Admin bar for everybody?! You should have added a toggle in the settings. It took me a long time to find out that the latest CloudFlare plugin update was causing this problem… ๐Ÿ™

    Hi all,

We’ve released 3.1.1 fixing the issue. Admin bar is hidden behind Automatic Cache Purge functionality.

Sorry for any trouble this may have caused.

Thank you for all your feedback.

I still have the problem with 3.1.1.

Adminbar is gone, and now there’s nowhere to fix it in code.

    Hi @hummelmose,

Admin bar is hidden behind Automatic Cache Purge functionality.

You can re-enable the admin bar if you disable Automatic Cache Purge which I don’t recommend for users who have Cache Everything page rule.

If you still continue to have issues or questions please let me know.

    Thanks
