# Latest Update

 * Hello Pascal,
    So this last update removed the database and monthly auto update
   of the database, making this plug useless until I download manually and then 
   upload a database the plugin needs to work? I saw your last changelog, and it
   seems licensing forced you to do this. This was a great plugin before this last
   update.
 * Do you have any updates planned that will make this plugin work automatically
   again?

 * No unfortunately not. Automatic downloading violates the license of wordpress.
 * So it had to be removed, and it will not get back in because if it will the plugin
   will be taken down again by WordPress.
 * I don’t like it either but it’s just the way it is.
 * You only have to download the database every now and then to still get a great
   plugin. Or if you do not want to do so, use the GeoIP API plugin and always get
   the latest version of the database.

 * If we upgrade it breaks the plugin unless we install database?

 * Not upgrading is not a problem. The main change with this release was removing
   the auto download option. So sticking to v1.1.16 for now is okay.

 * The databases of Maxmind are updated once a month, so if you always want the 
   latest info once a month is enough. As data does not change that often and you
   don’t mind not to be at the latest version a couple of times a year is no problem
   either.

 * I loaded the new version, downloaded and installed the Maxmind database and I
   then could no longer access my website. Just got an error message. Went back 
   to v1.1.16 and its ok now. Why not just add a “click here” to download the Maxmind
   database like other plugins do?

 * Because the guys from WordPress do not allow this. The (auto) download of the
   Maxmind databases are a conflict with the WordPress license.

 * Pascal, That would not be an autoload that would be my manually clicking on a
   prompt in your plugin to do the download. That way you can also designate where
   the Maxmind database would be downloaded to.

 * Also a button to download the database was not allowed. I’ve checked with the
   guys. The only option for them was for me to instruct the users to download the
   file and uploading it to a directory in the wordpress tree.
 * I don’t like it much either but the wordpress guys removed the plugin from the
   plugin directory and this was the only solution for the plugin to get back in
   the directory.
 * I am not entirely sure why you were blocked. Did you whitelist your own ip?

 * I could tell you at least one other common plugin that has a reminder and a button
   but won’t in a public forum. I uploaded GeoIP.dat.gz to the upload directory 
   your last update said to do and after that I couldn’t get back in. Do you want
   me to do it all over again to see what the message said?

 * You first need to unzip the file before uploading it.
 * Although I will probably check in the next version if the database exists as 
   gzip as well and unzip it. I should be allowed to do that much 🙂
 * So if you did unzip the file and placed it in /wp-content/uploads/ and got blocked
   out then if it is not too much trouble please let me know what error you got.

 * I tried the new version without GeoIP.dat unzipped and got a blank screen when
   I went to the website. After I unzipped it and got it in the right place it works
   fine! I think this procedure is a bit much for the average person who relies 
   on plugins. How does “Visitor Maps and Who’s Online” get away with having the
   button to update from Maxmind?

 * Nevermind, I uploaded the folder and it didn’t work, when I upload the individual
   file it seems to be working alright, message disappeared. Awesome plugin, keep
