Latest Posts – Categories

In the Customise section and Home page settings it has the option for “Your home page displays” > “Your latest posts”

But people don’t always want ALL the latest posts shown on the front page of the site. Needs to have an option for what categories to show latest posts from, ie only news. It’s mind boggling that isn’t a standard option.

I looked into the “Latest posts” block which has this option which is good, but then it doesn’t have pagination, so it will only show the number of items you choose. Also, it doesn’t look the same as the front page and there’s no options to edit appearance of the titles etc. So that is a no go.

I’ve tried plugins but they’re all rubbish, either don’t display correctly or don’t have the required look.

But those options shouldn’t even be required for such a simple obvious choice to want to control what latest posts are shown.
Shouldn’t have to install plugins or change templates or create new pages just for one setting.
