• We have tried various themes and templates to set up a landing page or splash page, but everything we try, we can’t get the landing page to follow thru and go to the home page, even when we set it up that way. When you click on “Go to site” it just stays on the landing page instead. Any ideas?

    Hello WPyogi — Thanks for your reply awhile back. Last week I DID in fact try that plugin you mentioned “Landing-Pages” but am now having a different sort of problem. I’ve tried contacting the developer of the plugin, but so far no response. The text of what I asked him is here below:

    My web site http://www.jackspetsitting.com/ I have your plugin installed, and have set up and published a landing page, with permalink suffix of “go.” In another browser window (using Firefox), when I enter http://www.jackspetsitting.com/ it goes to my home page instead, not the landing page. Am using the 2012 theme.

    When logged into my site, I have set up a CTA and it links directly to my home page just great.

    You mentioned on another post using the Home Page plugin, to be able to set up the landing page as the static home page. Can you give me the exact name and author of the plugin? Is this what I need to use to get this all to work?

    I might be wrong, but this sounds like confusion of Front page setting and the link to it.

    Suppose I have this.

    A = http://example.com/my-first-page
    B = http://example.com/my-landing-page
    C = http://example.com

    And under static front page settings, I set Front page display to B.

    • The link to front page set in custom menu will point to B ( not A), and the url will be shown as C.
    • When visit B directly, it will point to C.
    • A will be just A, you have to link to it directly, and manually.

    Thanks so much, Paul. I really meant to get back to you sooner.

    Your explanation makes pretty good sense. I have set up “B” my Landing Page as the front page, under SETTINGS menu.

    You stated, “The link to front page set in custom menu will point to B ( not A), and the url will be shown as C.” Do I need to somehow set up a custom menu, to point it to “B” not “A” ? And how do I go about doing that?

    Then when you say “A will be just A, you have to link to it directly, and manually.” Do you simply mean having the reader click on a link to take them from the Landing Page to the Home Page? This part has been relatively easy to set up, using LANDING PAGES plugin. Or, is there some other step I’m missing?

    The real problem I’m running into is when you enter in the URL for the main site, it totally bypasses the Landing page.

    In your case, you don’t want Landing page to be the first(front)page of the site, am I right ? If that’s so, do not set the Landing page as static front page.

    In the menu, you can make manual link to any page of the site.

    Hi Paul — I’m having a difficult time understanding what you’re getting at on both points.

    It would seem first off that I really DO want the landing page set as the static front page, so that when someone enters my url they go directly there, instead of going to my home page. BUT my site doesn’t give me the option of setting the Landing Page as static front page…even though the landing page is published on my site.

    Also, I’m fairly well versed in setting menus and sub menus, but not sure how you say that’s going to solve this landing pages issue.

    It appears that the folks who wrote the plugin “Landing Pages” that I’m using sell a $5 plugin to make the landing page my home page. Maybe that’s what I need to install and use. Not at all sure at this point. Thanks again for all your input!

    Jack
