Support » Plugin: The Events Calendar » Lacks basic features

  • I can never complain too much when something is free, but this plugin requires a separate download plugin just to use it as a shortcode. There is also no ability to add recurring events. The pro version even for just personal use is way too expensive for a calendar plugin.

    Hi, @cptnjtk17.

Our free plugin has a lot of functionality, but I understand that you are disappointed in what we have decided to include in our free/core version versus our Events Calendar PRO add-on.

Although PRO does enhance the functionality of the free widgets, this isn’t the place to discuss the details. You can contact us via our Pre-Sales Forum if you’d like.

Our free version does include widgets, which our shortcodes are basically wrappers for. In other words, the shortcode runs the applicable widget’s code, but the format of a shortcode allows it to be inserted more easily around your website. A plugin like AMR Shortcode Any Widget (third-party, not guaranteed or supported by us) might be able to accomplish this for you as well.

Regarding recurring events functionality not being available in the free version, they are a very complex part of our software and therefore are cause for much of our support load, which is a major reason they are available only in PRO.

Many other calendar plugins also follow this practice. Comparing to others, many don’t include a grid/Month view for free or the ability to do RSVPs (like we offer via our free Event Tickets plugin).

There are several other major features we offer that others don’t. For this reason and others, we’re confident that our free The Events Calendar plugin offers a lot of value (especially because it’s free!). We work hard to retain high ratings, and WordPress.org states that their free per-plugin forums is not the place to talk about paid features, paid support, or other “freemium” discussions.

Hopefully, you can agree that the features we have chosen to include do operate efficiently, are well-coded, and are implemented smartly. Therefore, we would sincerely appreciate you updating your rating and review to reflect the features that are included.

    Thanks! 🙂
