• Lacking a shortcode list within the settings area
    • Possible Problems with Themes which results in a blank page for the forum post

However, the support looks good. Will upgrade the ratings when these 2 problems are resolved.

    Hi wireB

Thanks for the review and the comments on various threads about shortcodes. I’m going to address the issues on the threads rather than here but I would make a couple of points.

Firstly, normally Settings are just for settings and don’t usually have documentation for things like shortcodes. All the documentation is on a single page here – https://catapultthemes.com/discussion-board/ – which is referred to on the FAQs page for the plugin here – https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-discussion-board/faq/. Hopefully, I think the FAQs page is a natural place to look for further information.

Second, it’s really helpful if you can give us chance to address possible issues, such as the possible problems with themes that you mention, before leaving a review. I appreciate that you’ve left an open and honest review and I thank you for your time in doing so. However, I’d much prefer to have had the opportunity to help you with any support requests first.

With that in mind, I’ll now take a look at the support threads you’ve commented on.

Thank you for trying the plugin.

    Hello Gareth,

    About placement of the Shortcode
I run focus groups on products and I would predict that it would be a majority that those testing in a group would unanimously vote to have shortcodes – which is a tag for the script, to be in a logical place, in both the installation area where the plugin is located on WP and in a dedicated tab.

The objective is to reduce the number of help tickets and forum support questions – which all take time and cost. Secondly, to get it to work, the user has to now search in the:

    • WP forum support area
    • Look and try to find something that should be packaged with the product.
    • Search the FAQs

I spent over 1/2 hour trying to find out how get the plugin to work, most was spent on trying to find the shortcodes, this was needless.

You can see from the support questions that the topic on: Where are the shortcodes could have been spared if a tab or in the instructions had the information. Some plugins do not use shortcodes you have to specify the page in the Settings. In my case and I would think that others would have thought that there was a plugin failure as there were no mention of shortcodes for displaying the content on a page.

Okay, I’m sorry that you spent so long trying to find the shortcodes. As I mentioned, all the documentation is either on or directly linked to from the FAQs page and I feel that’s a logical place for people to look.

Settings are generally where you define parameters for how the plugin works, not usually for documentation.

If you still have issues with the plugin, please let me know and I will gladly help you to resolve them.
