Support » Plugin: Site Kit by Google » Killed site performance with slow ttfb

  • I’m sure it’s a useful plugin and it wasn’t difficult to install and configure. The major problem I had was it killed the performance of my site. I couldn’t figure out why Time To First Byte had rocketed from 0.5 seconds to anywhere between 2.5 and 7 seconds!!

Took me a while to figure out it was this plugin – but once disabled everything’s ok again. Maybe it’s just on my site – but be warned – run a GTMetrix or similar test before installing and then every so often afterwards. It was intermittent to start with and then became all the time.

@mattgoddard thanks for sharing your experience. Could we investigate this further with you in a support topic?

It would be helpful to see what could be impacting your performance to determine if this is something we could address. In general, Site Kit itself should have minimal impact on performance. If you connect additional services (similar to adding their code snippets via another method- manual or using another plugin), it may affect the results you get in testing tools.

Since the jump you reported is significant, we’d definitely like to see what’s involved. Feel free to open a topic and share any relevant details (your site URL, links to test results with Site Kit activated and not, and if you connected additional services).

    Thanks so much!

    Hi @reneesoffice,

    Thanks for getting in contact.
I’ve raised a support ticket and asked for a secure means of sharing the test results.
