Hi,
Thanks for trying the plugin, its possible to add new keywords however a lot of the really useful ones are not provided through the Amazon AWS interface that the plugin uses.
If you have registered with the Amazon Advertising API (API you can have a look at the sort of data returned by the service using the API scratchpad.
For instance the API doesn’t provide any of the following:
- product description (Although the US version does return a reasonable ‘editorial content’)
- Price of Kindle Items
- Reviews
- Postage Details/Price
The API does return a link to the ‘reviews’ page which you can use to generate an iframe on your page – but I don’t know how well that would integrate into the look/theme of your site.
These links are only valid for a short time after the AWS request returned them so this link will work until 17:00 BST, 29th May 2013:
iframe link
Let me know what keywords you are after and I’ll see if I can add them,
Cheers,
Paul
Hi Paul,
Thanks for your answer.
Actually, I was wondering about the keywords after seeing the possibilities in other plugins. In fact, I really really like your serach tool but I found that maybe there are some informations missing in the ad.
For example other plugin templates provides more than 50 keywords and I find the ad they provided particularly attractive.
When I talked about the reviews, I was specifically talking about the stars rating. And as for the prices, it would be interested to put the « available from » prices.
Would it be possible to put on the ad those keywords :
-{$RatingStars} ({$TotalReviews}
-{$TotalOffers} {$LowestOfferFormattedPrice}
Those are just ideas to ad some more marketing content on the ad.
I tried to look on the API scratchpad but only find something about the total offers and lowest offer price, nothing about the reviews except the link you put below but that’s not what I was talking about. I just want this to be on the ad if possible (maybe with a picture it’s better : http://hpics.li/d1380d2 )
Thanks again for your help.
Cheers,
Gaëlle
Hi Gaëlle,
It is possible to get that data but it involves grabbing the data directly from the Amazon sites webpages (scraping the data). I have written enhancements to the plugin to do this occasionally but they tend to be unreliable (as any change to the Amazon web page can stop the scraper from working).
I have done one to get the rating and review count, but not got round to generating the set of ‘star’ images to go with it.
If you want to help out would be great if you could provide 10 star rating png files (with transparent backgrounds).
e.g.
star_1.png
star_1_5.png
star_2.png
star_2_5.png
etc.
Alas I don’t have to time (or the expertise) to do this at the moment!
Cheers,
Paul
Hi Paul,
I’ve got the 10 star rating .PNG files that you need.
How can I send them to you ? Do I have to upload them to a website like hostingpics.net as I did before ?
Thanks for your help !
Gaëlle
Hi,
Yep that would work, or email me at amazon-link-plugin AT redtom.co.uk

Hi,
I’m working on an update to get the rating and review info from Amazon, but it would work best if you could use the Beta version of the plugin.
You can download it here: http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/amazon-link.3.1.0-rc7.zip
It’s still being tested but it should be pretty stable now, can you see it works on your site?
Cheers,
Paul
Hi Paul
I’ve downloaded the beta linked above, and I can’t see how to add rating or review info.
I’ve gone through the template help found at “/admin.php?page=amazon-link-templates”, but I can’t see any references. Are you able to post example code please?
Thanks
Pete
Hi,
You need to install an extra plugin to extend the existing functionality, it scrapes the info from Amazon’s review page so I don’t want it widely distributed!
If I have done this right then this link will give you access to the ratings plugin, download it and put it into your plugins directory and then activate it:
http://bit.ly/14NFWDa
You will also need to download and install the ‘star’ images in the plugins/amazon-link/images directory, a zip file of the stars can be downloaded here:
http://bit.ly/11IQx43
These links are only valid for the next 20 days!
Paul
Hi Paul
You’re a scholar and a gentleman – this works perfectly!!!!
