We’re working on some major enhancements to search, including the use of wildcards. Without the wildcard, it would currently expect an exact match. We’re going to have the first round of these updates in 3.4, more coming in 3.5 since it’s a lot to add and we’ve held 3.4 for a long time for recurring payments.
‘Out of the box’ I just assumed the search was wildcard available until after I set my directory up and was disappointed to learn it wasn’t. I was going to try to convince or try to persuade them to drop 180+ categories and go with 2-5, and let the categories become tags or keywords instead, imputed by the listing member.
I hope soon it can be updated to allow wildcards in the search.
