Keeps Crashing My Website

For the past 2 weeks my website has been crashing because of this plugin – warning to others
PHP Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required public_html/wp-content/plugins/custom-content-shortcode/includes/modules/paged.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/php/54/usr/lib64:/usr/php/54/usr/share/pear’) in /home2/thehitti/public_html/wp-content/plugins/custom-content-shortcode/custom-content-shortcode.php on line 118

I’m sorry to hear about your experience.
This was an issue with one older version whose upload to the WordPress repository didn’t complete correctly. I immediately uploaded the complete version, but I see that some copies still got out. Please delete the plugin folder and download the latest version.
Hi @cbaggy895g,
I hope you don’t mind me jumping in here. I’ve had the same issue occur three times in the past two weeks, but it’s been easily fixed by re-uploading the plugin’s paged.php file to its Modules folder.
Also, did you check the front end of your site while this was happening? For me, the front end hasn’t been affected, so at least site visitors wouldn’t have noticed anything. The problem only seems to affect users trying to log in…
I’ve reported my issue here, if you’re interested in the details: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/missing-paged-module-prevents-login.
Cheers!
I understand its easily fixed however the issue is it crashes the entire website and it just happened again today. This is the 5th time ive re-uploaded the files but it still occurs. I’m sure you guys will figure it out eventually. Because it is such a useful plugin I will stick with it, for now at least….Good luck
[15-May-2015 12:28:15 UTC] PHP Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required/public_html/wp-content/plugins/custom-content-shortcode/includes/modules/paged.php
Some others have chimed in so hopefully with a few of us working together, we’ll be able to figure this out. It looks like it’s happening regularly every seven days, so based on the error message you posted above, at least now you can expect it to happen again on the 22nd, and possibly around the same time.
I’ve lost one of my sites to the Custom Content Shortcode plugin problem on two occasions now.
I hadn’t checked the site since I last fixed it, but it went to a white screen, on both admin and front end, on May 4th, and I upgraded the plugin on 10th May, and the site was OK again, but it went down again on the 11th/12th May.
I just noticed it was white again today, and it has been off for 8 days with that white screen. This time I deleted the plugin and the site is OK again.
I can tell what dates it happened from the zero visits that the site recorded during those times.
Please see the support thread for this issue as we are actively trying to resolve it. It would be very helpful to know whether either of you are with Bluehost, or whether you are using any security or caching plugins, and if so, which ones. Thanks!
The issue was apparently caused by a particular hosting server, not the plugin itself.
A work-around solution was implemented in version 2.2.4, which should prevent it from happening in the future.
Thanks Elliot for the great plugin and hard work.
It upsets me when people rate plugins unfairly when they get emotional about their site crashing and then looks for someone to blame. Obviously the plugin could be the cause (although not in this case) but even then the correct route to follow would be to go through support first.
This area is for REVIEWS not for blowing of steam. I’m certain that if @cbaggy895g contacted support first he would have realised just how good the support is and would have found a solution much quicker.
And no, my comment is not based on the fact that I’m in some way related to the author – I’m on the other side of the world. The author is offering the plugin and his time for free. I just don’t appreciate people giving unfair reviews that have a direct impact on people like me looking for plugins based on the reviews.
That’s the world of social media my friend – freedom of speech. If you are upset I suggest you go to the store and buy some tissues…It is a great plugin, now that our voice has been heard the problem has been fixed. Everyone’s a winner…time to move on.

I’m with you on this, pronkman. I couldn’t build my site without CCS, so I really appreciate all of Eliot’s hard work. Considering that cbaggy895g was immediately advised that the situation was already being worked on, and then again promptly notified once it was resolved, I had rather hoped he would return to increase his star rating. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this plugin and it doesn’t deserve a one-star review.
I agree that it’s annoying when people jump straight to a bad rating instead of seeking support (especially in such an active support forum as Eliot’s!!). How can the ratings/review system be trusted when many of them, as you say, are based on frustration and emotion?
But WordPress could do a better job of directing people to the support forum when they click on a star rating. All that happens at present is that once a star is clicked, the user is redirected to the review section, with a tiny text note in italics indicating that to rate a plugin, one must also leave a review. It would perhaps improve things if there was a large text note in bold advising to seek help in the support forum, with a link to it. Even, I would suggest preventing users from leaving reviews unless they have previously posted in the support forum; however, some plugins offer support outside the WordPress forums, so that might not actually work. Still, I’m just putting it out there as food for thought… It might lead someone more tech-savvy to a lightbulb moment 😉
Thankfully, it’s obvious by reading these comments that the issue has been resolved, so anyone looking into this review will probably not be negatively swayed by it… 🙂
How can the ratings/review system be trusted when many of them, as you say, are based on frustration and emotion?
You trust them because they are based on real feelings like frustration and emotion. It can be entirely accurate and true that someone was frustrated with this plugin. Don’t take reviews so seriously, they’re there to help the authors and contributors understand issues and improve the plugin. Authors should not base their business models on the WordPress.org reviews.
If you have feedback for WordPress.org, please post on the Requests and Feedback or Misc forum. There’s a discussion on this already: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/improvements-for-plugin-reviews
Though I think providing resources to make good reviews is useless in the face of a frustrated reviewer.
@cbaggy895g, I must have been typing at the same time as you earlier because your comment wasn’t there when I wrote mine.

If it is a great plugin, why not change the rating you gave it? Because so long as you don’t change it, then not everyone’s a winner. The plugin still gets a bad rating, which you admit yourself it doesn’t deserve…
@cbaggy895g 90 best review vs 1 bad review, maybe u need picnic bro.. so u can easily use this plugin 😀 if u think this plugin break ur site, maybe u are not [moderated] 😀 lol (just kidding) but this plugin realy works great like a charm 🙂
@ayurozenda, Please don’t be patronising.
