• Hi everyone.
On my blog (here) I serve a wide audience. I have some posts that I don’t want acquaintances to read, some I only want close friends and family to read, etc. I had been using ViewLevel2 (here) to hide specific posts from users below a given user level. It doesn’t appear to work with 2.0.

How would you recommend that I get this same function done with WP 2.0? I would rather have everyone (except me) only able to read posts, not write or anything, but I can sacrifice that if needed. Most important is that filtering is done at the most basic level possible so that nobody gets suspicious that they’re being left out.

Are there any tutorials yet on assigning specific roles to specific users? If so, what roles should I use?

I guess I could wait for a plugin to be written, but maybe by posting here I can inspire someone! I haven’t been able to contact the author of ViewLevel2 yet.

Thanks in advance for your time and help,
    Sara

  • There isn’t really “help” here for 2.0-RC1.
Just testing. Don’t use this version on a live site.

Hi moshu. Is there a better place for me to ask? And don’t worry–only 1.5.2 is on my live site.

Good, I am glad it’s not on a live site 🙂
Let me put in this way – there is no really place to ask, yet. And I didn’t say you cannot ask, it’s just unlikely to get answers. There was a discussion about the new Role system here:

Thanks for the link. I’ll check back for replies just in case.

I found a way to achieve what I wanted. I still use ViewLevel, but now with Owen’s Role Manager I can make what I want of the roles/capabilities. So I basically use Role Manager to revert back to the old way. In addition, I use x-Dashboard to block parts of the dashboard from lower-level users who might grow suspicious. That completely solves my problem! Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for posting back the solution you’ve found. I am sure other users seeking a similar solution will find it useful.
