Keeping a link private

Is there a way to tell Link Library to suppress links that are private? That is, links with the checkbox “Keep this link private” checked should not show up. Thank you.

Have you tried accessing the same page from an incognito browser? I think that private items show when you’re logged in as admin but would not show up for visitors that don’t have these permissions.
Thanks for your response. The link stays hidden if I make it private within Link Library (wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=…), but not when I check “Keep this link private” in the standard WordPress Links page (wp-admin/link.php?action=edit&link_id=…). I guess I don’t understand the relationship of Link Library to the standard Links page. I have hundreds of private links on my site and that information doesn’t seem to carry over to Link Library. Thanks for any insights!
Thanks for the additional information. Link Library and the standard WordPress Link Manager work with two different data sets. When you first install Link Library, it will do an import of all links that are in the standard Link Manager to its own data format. In older versions, Link Library was actually an add-on to the standard Link Manager, but starting in version 6.0, I started using Custom Post Types and my own data structure to be able to provide more capabilities to my users.
So, when you edit links in Link Library, you’re editing the links that are displayed when you use my plugin’s shortcodes or blocks. When you edit links in the standard Links page, you’re editing link data that Link Library does not look at.
If you like Link Library, you can actually deinstall the WordPress Link Manager plugin and only use Link Library. There are also functions under the Global Options page of Link Library to re-import all links from the standard Link Manager, or to delete all links from the standard Link Manager once you’ve migrated over.
I hope this answers the question. Please consider donating if you make this plugin a standard feature of your web site.
Thanks. In that case, it appears that your plugin doesn’t consider the “Keep this link private” value when importing the Link Manager links. Maybe a future enhancement for your import process?
If I do start using your plugin, I’ll surely donate. (Just evaluating it right now.) Thanks for the great support!
That is possible. I’ll investigate in the next few days and let you know what I find about this.
Took a few moments to test this and the importer does consider the value of the Keep this link private box when importing. You may want to try to re-import links and checking if it shows up correctly now. Another thing to be sure is to have at least one category assigned to every link. Links without categories won’t be imported.
Thanks, I can confirm you’re correct. I was making changes in the Links manager and assuming they’d be immediately reflected in Link Library. Now that I understand Link Library operates on a copy of the Links data, I can properly evaluate the plugin for my site. Thanks again.
