The reCAPTCHA visual object seems to be working OK because I get the green check mark ever time I test it. But when I attempt to send the message I always get the following error message. The only thing I am not certain about is whether or not I have correctly followed the instructions on the Google reCAPTCHA page about where to place the Java Script: “Paste this snippet before the closing </head> tag on your HTML template” (My theme is Weaver Xtreme is not making this very easy for me and the theme tech support advised I ask you about this issue) and the one about: “Paste this snippet at the end of the <form> where you want the reCAPTCHA widget to appear:”

By end of form do you mean (or does Google mean) the very last HTML code at the bottom of the page? Because that is what I believe I did and the reCAPTCHA visual object appears before the “send” button.

I keep getting message “Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method.”

I don’t know why the link isn’t showing up. I entered the anchor tag by using the link button at the top of the editor text box?

    Hi,

try posting link without anchor tag.
It seems you may have another plugin installed, because my plugin does not have this text in instructions: Paste this snippet at the end of the <form> where you want the reCAPTCHA widget to appear

    Thanks

    247wd,

Here is the link I hope:

The instruction text I was referring to is not in your plugin. It is on the Google web page gotten to by using the plugin configuration setup process in “Configure plugin from Settings => CF7 Simple Recaptcha” which was copied and pasted from the “Details” page of your plugin. It is at this point that I click on the “here” link to get to https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin#list Which is where I “Register a new site”. It’s on this Google registration page where the instructions are at. I can’t get there to produce a link for you without re-registering my site because that is where the “Site key” and “Secret key” are specified by Google.

The instructions say about the Java script “Paste this snippet before the closing </head> tag on your HTML template:”. The instructions say about the <Div> tag HTML: “Paste this snippet at the end of the <form> where you want the reCAPTCHA widget to appear:”.

Buy writing this I may have just figured out where my mistake is. I’ll get back to you.

    Thank you for your time.

    247wd,

I removed the <Div> tag content from the bottom of the Contact Us web-page. That was the wrong place. But Google’s instructions say to “Paste this snippet at the end of the <form> where you want the reCAPTCHA widget to appear:”. I did that in the “Contact Form 1” design screen. Doing so didn’t change anything. the “Contact Form 1” design screen isn’t exactly HTML even thought it has some paragraph tags in it. Am I pasting this <Div> tag content in the correct place?

Here is the link to my site in case you need it again:

I’ve just tested, if you do not click captcha, see it shows invalid captcha error message. This means captcha works.
Try removing the captcha shortcode from contact form or disable captcha plugin temporarily. And fill out all fields, my guess it will show same Failed to send your message error. Keep me updated.

    247wd,

Thank you for the advice about the testing technique. I’m working on it now. Will let you know the results by tomorrow morning at the latest.

    247wd,

The comment between the plus signs below came from the author of the Weaver Xtreme theme that I am using to build my WordPress website. This was his reaction to what I was seeking help in doing. What I was trying to do that upset this guy so much was inject a Java script just before the </HEAD> tag on the web-page that contained my Contact 7 form. The reason I was trying to do that is because on the Google web-page that displays the site-key and secret-key there are instructions that say the user of this service must do that to successfully use the service.

It is my opinion that you as the author of the “Contact Form 7 Simple Recaptcha” should include in the instructions that you provide to your users just before they click on the link that takes them to the Google configuration web-page, advise not to follow those instructions because your plugin takes care of whatever that java script is going to do for them. Being new to website development I had no way of knowing that or suspecting that I should not be trying to follow those instructions. Being ignorant of that fact cost me about 16 hours of work struggling to do something that I was not familiar with doing, and something that the Theme author felt very strongly that I should not be doing that in the first place.

When you write instructions for users of your product, you must put yourself in there position by understanding that they don’t know what you think everybody should know because you know it. That assumption cost me a lot of extra time, hard work experimenting, and conflict from those who are trying to defend the integrity of their product.

You are young. So your ignorance can be forgiven. I’m old. That is why I know that you are young and make such incorrect assumptions.
Just because you got 11 five star ratings with no ratings that were less than five stars doesn’t mean that your product doesn’t need improving in some way. If you make it easier for potential users to use your product, maybe you can get a lot more than Active Installs: 2,000+. “Contact Form 7” has more than 1+ million active installs. That is a very big potential market for you.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
What you tired to do is incorrect. What they are asking you to do is ridiculous. The days of patching theme code should be long gone, especially for such a thing as simple as a captcha. Because Contact Form 7 is so popular, I’m positive there must be an alternative Captcha plugin for it that doesn’t require such extreme measures as modifying a theme.

And even what they recommend is WRONG WRONG WRONG. If you simply must make such changes, then the ONLY correct way to do that is via a child theme, and that is way beyond the abilities of 99% of WordPress users.

The plugin is free to use. If you read in description, I said: “In case it does not work, just deactivate.”
Or if you read first lines: “Latest version of Contact Form 7 implemented similar captcha. No reason to install additional plugin.”
Also, it says clearly on the page you enter settings: “You can generate Site key and Secret key here. Once generated, paste them below for this plugin to work. To add Recaptcha to CF7 form, add [cf7sr-simple-recaptcha] in your form ( preferable above submit button )”
This is the thank you message I receive for trying to help you fix it: “You are young. So your ignorance can be forgiven”
Ignorance for trying to help you? I’ve spent time to respond to your issues, and you are complaining you spent time to learn to use computer?
People left ratings because plugin works. You can leave 1 star rating if it didn’t worked in your case.
