I’m on the last stages of building a portfolio site in WordPress and I just hit another major snag.
When I try to embed a video from Kaltura, the player window is reduced to half its normal height.
Since Kaltura is not on the WordPress whitelist for easy oEmbed, I have tried several plugins that are supposed to allow full XHTML embed code to get by WordPress’s code-stripping security (Embedit, Kaltura’s own All-in-one video package which doesn’t seem to help you with embed code, and rawr). Nothing seems to fix this problem.
Here’s the really strange part. When viewed in Chrome’s inspector, the code for the video on my WordPress blog is identical to how it appears on a plain html page. It looks like this:
<object name="kaltura_player_1334471482" id="kaltura_player_1334471482" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="always" allowNetworking="all" allowFullScreen="true" height="385" width="630" data="http://www.kaltura.com/index.php/kwidget/wid/0_zeqrcyyu/uiconf_id/2983742"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowNetworking" value="all" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /><param name="movie" value="http://www.kaltura.com/index.php/kwidget/wid/0_zeqrcyyu/uiconf_id/2983742"/><param name="flashVars" value=""/><a href="http://corp.kaltura.com">video platform</a><a href="http://corp.kaltura.com/video_platform/video_management">video management</a><a href="http://corp.kaltura.com/solutions/video_solution">video solutions</a><a href="http://corp.kaltura.com/video_platform/video_publishing">video player</a></object>
If I change the height and width values in the inspector on the plain html page, the video player changes as it is supposed to. If I modify those attributes on my WordPress site, again using Chrome’s inspector, nothing changes. Something is locking the videos at half their height and I can’t figure out what’s doing it.
Any other ideas out there? I searched for Kaltura issues for hours and this particular problem didn’t seem to come up.
Unbelievable. Another one of these marathon coding sessions where you get so tired you can’t see the obvious. Turned out the problem was an extra style for objects I picked up in my stylesheet at some point. I guess this will be another monument to the frustrations of coding.
