Support » Fixing WordPress » ka-ka-sh-ka? [spam!]

  • Is anyone else getting blasted by comment spam with “ka-ka-sh-ka” somewhere in the body? All of my different WordPress sites (including self-hosted and at wordpress.com) are getting thousands of these a day. Akismet is catching most of them, but a lot of them are getting through too.

The message content usually starts with “ka-ka-sh-ka” and then has a title of “anal licking” or “plaster casting mold”, with a link to some site which is probably porn.

Is there something that we can use in conjunction with Akismet, or is there a way to block based on IP?

Thank you kindly for your time.

  • Well a quick google search shows a large number of sites on how to block an IP address.

    Here’s a Good one.

You may want to check for the plugin Bad Behavior as it’s been reported to do well with Akismet. Also make sure you;re running the latest released version of Akismet. It’s been updated a couple of times recently.

Not getting any of those. I bet Bad Behavior is blocking them.

I *highly* recommend Bad Behavior. It stops a lot of automated spam dead in its tracks. No configuration. Just makes the spam stop coming quite so much.

May already be blocking the IP address. What is it anyway? Got me curious now.

    ‘Tis 81.95.146.227.

Thanks for the Bad Behavior recommendation. I’ll certainly check it out.

We’ve been discussing that IP over in wp.com land for quite some time now. Russia Federation if I remember correctly. Blocked at my routers for quite some time. Ditto on my own personal sites with the htaccess rules I mentioned up above.

    Whole class C actually.

Very surprised you’re still getting them as I would think Akismet would have realized that that IP address is pure block by now.

    Hahaha!
Kakashka means SMALL SHIT (or shity) in Russian!
    🙂
