So I am not really a developer but your plugin looks fairly simple once I understand some basics that right now I'm not getting.

The content type I'm setting up is for recipes, to make it easier for the client to input recipes into her website. So far I have the content type set up, the custom fields set up and the template in the theme. I'm not sure where to go from here, however. I have a main "Recipes" page where I would like a list of the recipes that can be linked to each individual recipe. Where does that get set up? Also, I would like to style the recipe so each individual ingredient is on a separate line, but there's nothing in the css file about the recipe content type.

Sorry these are such newbie questions.

Menu building is a core component of building any site, so it's not such a noob question.

One tactic that I use in this situation is I set up a dedicated Page (not a post), whose sole purpose is to generate a list of links (i.e. a menu). You can use the Summarize Posts shortcode to define which posts should be listed. This page should get you started: https://code.google.com/p/wordpress-custom-content-type-manager/wiki/summarize_posts_shortcode
