Support » Plugin: Gutenberg » JUST CRINGY please keep it simple, make Gutenberg optional

  • I´m just a random user and I don´t want to play peek-a-boo with things like text color, editing the post URL, adding images, etcetera. And the classic editor plugin is failing… I´m being forced upon using Gutenberg but images don´t show properly, I can´t edit its ALT text, I can´t change the text color for some words (it changes all the block), I don´t know how to edit the permalink, everything useful is hidden and the only things showing up are mostly meaningless crap.
    Turn it optional please!!!

Editing this review: now with WP 5.5 it DOESN´T work at all, just a blank page. And Classic Editor Plugin doesn´t work either.
I just want to type a post and publish it. Why are you doing it so complicated??

  • It IS optional still, however it is the default editor, that I concede. You can install and activate Disable Gutenberg as an alternative to Classic Editor.

For the issues you mention in your review:

    but images don´t show properly

Can you please elaborate on this?

I can´t change the text color for some words (it changes all the block)

There is a plugin for this, but it has a tiny error that has to be corrected. If you are interested, it’s called Advanced Rich Text Tools for Gutenberg and the patch needed is in the second comment in this link.

I can´t edit its ALT text

Option #1: Click on the image, click on the gear (top-right), click on “Block” tab, there you’ll find the “alt” field.

Option #2: Click on the image, click the pencil on its toolbar and you’ll see the familiar image options; on the right panel you’ll find the “alt” field.

I don´t know how to edit the permalink

Option #1: Click on the gear (top-right), then click on “Document” tab, locate “Permalink” section and edit as you wish.

Option #2: Click on the post title, and above you’ll see a box where you can edit the post slug; click the “Edit” button located at the end of the box, edit the slug and click again to save your changes.

    Hope it helps.

The Advanced Rich Text plugin simply adds a <span> tag with styles.
If we copy and paste the styled text, Gutenberg gets rid of all the span tags. This temporal workaround doesn’t fix the structural deficiency underling the new editor at all.

We know TinyMCE is out of date, so we are seriously struggling and trying to make use of the defective editor.

TinyMCE Advanced also allows applying color to selected text, and also has other character styles.

    we are seriously struggling

    Struggling how?
