JSON Error on Woocommerce v7.6

    My client is getting the following error message when trying to update pages and posts:

    “Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.”

    The web host has confirmed that it’s not a server error. When viewing the error logs in cPanel, there appear to be multiple errors within the Woocommerce plugin dating back to when V7.6 was released.

    Has anyone else had the same error message?

    Thanks for reaching out!

    I understand that your client is receiving the above error message when trying to update pages and posts, is this correct?

    Since the web host has confirmed that this is not a server error, can you see if refreshing the sites permalinks makes any difference?

    To do this, head over to Dashboard → Settings → Permalinks, and resave your existing settings, without making any changes to the settings.

    Additionally, the JSON response error could be the cause of misconfigured site addresses on the Settings page.

    Please navigate to Dashboard → Settings → General and check that the site URL entered in both WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) are exactly the same:

    If this makes no difference, please can you share the following:

    • System Status Report: navigate to WooCommerce → Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support.
    • Fatal Error log: Share a copy of any fatal error log found under WooCommerce → Status → Logs.

    Once you have these, please share them in your response here.

    Thanks so much for your reply. The site addresses are the same and updating the permalinks has no effect. The only solution I’ve found is to deactivate the WC plugin, which is not an option going forward.

    This error indicates your memory limit being exhausted. To resolve this issue you would need to increase your WordPress memory limit from 256M to 512M.

    You can reach out to your host for help with this. Also, you can read more about this in our Increasing the WordPress Memory Limit support documentation.

    If increasing the memory limit makes no difference, I’d suggest performing a full conflict test to rule out any theme/plugin conflicts causing the issue.

    You can do this by following the How to test for conflicts support guide.

    Thanks so much for your reply. I’ve increased the memory limit, so we will see if that makes a difference.

    I have done some additional investigation and it could be an issue with corrupt content within a blog post, so we are removing that content too.

    Should the issue not be resolved, you can perform a full conflict test as suggested above and see if you are able to identify the possible culprit.
