jQuery: no method 'nggSlideshow' found / stuck on loading gif

NextGEN Gallery Version: 1.9.2

I just created a new gallery for my home page, added it to a new album, added 4 images, and added the correct shortcode on the home page.

when the page loads, all I get is the loading gif and nothing else. after inspecting the code in Chrome, one of the errors is:

“Uncaught TypeError: Object [object Object] has no method ‘nggSlideshow’ “
