  • cLin : We are relying on you.

always interested me, but where did those standard rectangular boxes orginally come from? they’re everywhere.
    what font is it?

I am sure that how I place my custom button on my page is registering the vote ok, so if any body else wants to try it grab some buttons here:
    http://www.wairoa.com/information/topsite/
They were made to match the color schemes of the sites currently in the Top 20… you know who you are!

Hmmm. I notice that several sites that were quick to sign up to the WP Topsites thingy http://wp.lat3nt.net/topsites have now removed the voting link from their pages. Any particular reason why? Or is it just a case of been-there-done-that? Or… ?

It may well be that some folks dislike the notion of a kind of league of any sort. And the default image did not suit many people. Kindly now fixed.
Speaking personally I can not for the life of me figure out how the rankings work in any case. A bit of fun maybe and a way of locating WP bloggers. Only time will tell how valuable it is.

I signed up, but haven’t really gotten around to putting the voting link on my page. I’ve never been big on adding a lot of buttons to my site, and ranking isn’t particularly important to me. However, it is nice to be on the list. πŸ™‚

    wairoanz,
I decided to remove mine after a conversation in #wordpress on IRC where someone, jokingly, said words to the effect “how come your site is still beating mine?”
I never started my site to be more than an avenue for me to learn some skills, and do some writing. Through my association with WordPress since the pre-1.0 days, I’ve met a lot of fantastic people and made a lot of friends.
I don’t have a clue about the criteria of the TopSite thing, and why any one site winds up higher on the list than another. It’s not a competition, and I don’t want it to become something that I find myself checking to see where I am for that day. I enjoy my site, and if anyone else does, that’s great too. I thought it would just be something fun at first, but it’s just not sitting right with me.
I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with it. For those who wish to participate regardless of motivation, please do and have fun!
    Yeah, I know. Party-pooper. Sorry.
    Craig.

Well I think we should congratulate the Moose on being No 1, whatever that may be :). And I do understand where he is coming from on this.

Thanks for the tips wairoanz, i’ve adapted your topsite buttons, they look good. However, still can’t see my banner button on the listing pages, only on the detailed stats page.

@anon… Only the Top 2 seem to get their banner displayed on the main page, although I think cLin (the WP Topsite webmaster) could change that if he so desired.

Well I am thinking of hosting a comp for the spiffiest topsites graphic. πŸ™‚
It would have be between seriocomic and shadow at the moment. Any one for bevels ? πŸ™‚

I use the image link, but I have set the ‘display:none’ in the CSS. That way, just the text link appears.

Doesn’t matter anymore since the stats on the right just displays the unique hits in now. But that’s pretty smart thing to do.
