    Hi there,

I am using the Sohohotel theme, and was using the jetpack plugin for a while already, but now after an update where i had to deactivate all my plugins and reactivate them again, my visibility settings aren’t working correctly.

When i try to put the settings op show widget if page is for example “events & surroundings” the widget get’s deleted on all the pages and doesn’t show at all any more.

Don’t know what went wrong so hope you can help me:)

a link to my website is http://www.droomvakantiehuisje.nl

That’s a really odd one. Could you try with all other plugins disabled, to confirm there isn’t a conflict with another plugin?

Alternatively, could you take a screenshot of the widget settings just before it is deleted? I’ll test to make sure I can’t duplicate it.

If needed, you can find instructions on how to take a screenshot at http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/

Once you have the screenshot, you can upload it to your site (via Media->Add New, then once uploaded, click Edit and copy/paste the “File URL”) and paste the link here.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your quick response.
I made a printscreen of an example page called “Evenementen & omgeving”.
This is de link to that page: http://www.droomvakantiehuisje.nl/events/

This is the link to the printscreen: http://www.droomvakantiehuisje.nl/wp-content/uploads/Printscreen-Evenementen-omgeving-page.png

I use a child theme and in my child theme my widgets are visable normally, but when i change the visibility settings they delete themselves.
But what i just saw, is when i activate the parent theme instead of the child theme, the jetpack widgets are already gone over there… Is it a theme error maybe?

I hope not, because even though i have paid for my theme, my theme developer isn’t really helpfull…

    hope you can help!:)

    Hi,

I’m sorryβ€”I meant a screenshot of your widget settings within /wp-admin/ so I can see how you’re setting up the themes, specifically what widget visibility settings you’re setting just before they delete themselves.

I don’t want to rule out a theme issue, but still strange to me that it would happen at all πŸ™‚

    Hi,

    woops my bad sorry!
This is the link of the widget settings:

I left 2 widgets open, one is for my blog posts and the other is just for a page called “Evenementen & omgeving”.

The weird codes like [:nl] are from my translation plugin, those can’t be the issue because i used them before as well and that wasn’t a problem before. πŸ™‚

    cheers againn

Is the admin bar always down that far, or just a project of the screenshot process?

I can’t duplicate this on my test site with those settings. Is it is acting different with the parent theme vs a child theme, the theme is a good thought. Did you try with all other plugins disabled too?

Generally, our troubleshooting flow at this point would be to try with all other plugins disabled, if it works, activate them one by one until it breaks. The last one activated is one to investigate further.

If it still doesn’t work, try it with a default theme (e.g. Twenty Fourteen) to eliminate a theme issue.

    Hi Brandon,

yeah i’m sorry forgot to tell you, the admin bar is just a project of the screenshot, it’s is just normal on top.

With the parent theme, the jetpack widgets don’t even work anymore, they just be deleted even out of my widget admin, if i insert them there again so they Are in the sidebar/footer and try the visibility or other settings, they still don’t show on the website, but do stay in the widget admin, so that is why i think it is maybe a theme error. I still haven’t heard from my theme developer…so don’t have any news on that.

I will try the plugins/default theme to test the plugin and let you know what happens

    Hi Brandon,

Sorry for the second message already, i decided to try it right away.
I dissabled the plugins, that made no difference, i activated Twenty fourteen, and the widget visibility seems to work again…

So that must mean unfortunately for me, that it’s a theme issue…

I don’t think i will get help from my developer, so i am hopinggg that even though it is a theme issue you might have any other ideas??:(

    cheers

    That’s quite alright.

My guess is there’s something (Javascript-based, being my guess) that the theme is loading either all the time or in the admin that is causing the conflict. I’m afraid if there’s conflicting code there, there isn’t a great way to work around it.

Please do contact the theme author and give him/her a link to this thread. Happy to work with them to try to determine the conflict.

    Cheers!

Hi thanks again for your quick response.
I will copy your message to him and ask him if he would be open to work with you on this case.

Really hope he will, because i love your plugin and would hate it if i have to delete it:(

Thanks again for all your help.

Sounds good. I’m marking this as resolved, but if the theme author replies here or contacts us via http://jetpack.me/contact-support/ and references this thread, we’ll help figure it out πŸ™‚

    Hi Brandon,

    I told my theme developer:
If you maybe can’t find the error, maybe you can get in contact with the plugin developer Brandon, who has offered you his help?

    and his response was:
Regarding JetPack, if the plugin author wants to contact me and provide details how to integrate their plugin they can contact me at hello@quitenicestuff.com and I’ll be happy to provide support for it.

I don’t why he can’t contact you, but could you maybe contact him instead?

    cheers

I received a copy of the theme and haven’t been able to duplicate the problem. Can you walk me step-by-step what you’re doing?

    I tried:
    1. Created a new widget
    2. Set the Widget Visibility to a static page
    3. Saved
    4. Refreshed the Widget page

It all seems to be woking as expected.

    Thanks!
