 * Hi,
 * The Jetpack update keeps failing along with the following message:
 * > An error occurred while updating Jetpack by WordPress.com: The update cannot
   > be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually
   > due to inconsistent file permissions. error_log
 * I’ve checked my files and found several instances of the ‘error_log’ file so
   I’m not sure which one is causing the problem, and I’ve been unable to discover
   what the permissions should be in any case.
 * It’s only Jetpack which is giving me trouble. Any help gratefully received.
 * Thanks.

 * That seems to be a common WordPress issue, and it was supposed to be fixed in
   WordPress 4.3.1:
    [https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/33480](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/33480)
 * If you use the latest version of WordPress and still experience issues, I’d suggest
   using an FTP client like FileZilla to log into your site and update file and
   folder permissions in your WordPress installation. By default, [all files should have `664` permissions, while all directories should have `755` permissions](https://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions).
 * If you don’t feel comfortable making these changes yourself, I’d suggest updating
   Jetpack manually, as explained here:
    [http://codex.wordpress.org/Managing_Plugins#Manual_Plugin_Installation](http://codex.wordpress.org/Managing_Plugins#Manual_Plugin_Installation)
 * Before you do so, you’ll need to delete the old installation of Jetpack on your
   site. You’ll find the Jetpack plugin folder here:
 *     ```
       wp-content
          plugins
            jetpack - DELETE THIS FOLDER
       ```
 * If you’re not sure how to do this, you can ask your hosting company for help.
   They should also have documentation explaining how to edit or remove files from
   your site using FTP or a File Manager in your admin panel.
 * Once you’ve done all this, it might be worth asking your host to look into what
   is creating all these `error_log` files everywhere in your WordPress installation.
   This page could help you make sure no debugging is currently active in your site’s
   wp-config.php file:
    [https://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress](https://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress)
 * I hope this helps.
