    Hi there,
Our site has become quite slow and while troubleshooting, deactivating all plugins and activating them one by one and testing the speed, jetpack is the one that’s slowing down the site significantly. I’ve noticed others complaining about the same issue and the increased server load. Is there a solution? Is there something that needs to be optimized with the plugin? We’d love to continue using it but cannot if this slowness continues, unfortunately.

  • turn off any modules in jetpack settings that you dont need running. Very few sites would find a use for all the modules. Even though jetpack is designed to make use of wordpress.com features, it does make alot of http calls. Also adds a lot of unnecessary mysql queries to the database.

So go to jetpack > click the “Learn More” button on each module you dont need running > deactivate.

When running smoothly with your site, modules like photon should actually increase your site performance substantially.

@cherylmcl Could you follow the steps described by @security Cameras above, in order to find out if the performance issues are linked to a specific Jetpack module?

Once you have found the module that’s causing the problem, please let me know! I’d be happy to investigate further.

@cherylmcl I found Jetpack slowed the backend of my sites right down, there is a stripped down version of Jetpack called Slim Jetpack, you dont need to connect to WordPress.com and can activate each module individually, Not all modules are available, things like stats that pull there data of WordPress.com aren’t there but its still useful.

@mark1mark If you want to use Jetpack without connecting to a WordPress.com account, you could use the development mode, as explained here:
    http://jetpack.me/2013/03/28/jetpack-dev-mode-release/

You could also try to reactivate jetpack, and activate all modules one at a time to find out which one slows your site down. I’d be happy to investigate further!

Hi Jeremy, thanks, I will do. Jetpack is a really useful useful bit of kit and since it’s release I have used it on everyone of my sites, I thank you for such a great job

I would like to bring another topic up regarding Jetpack, what would be the best way to do that please.

Jetpack is slowing down my sites list crazy. It puts more load on the server than all the other plugins combined. I don’t know what to do. I only use 4 or 5 features but a couple of them are really important (comments, custom CSS, photon, share buttons, etc)

@patrickhealy load the plugin “slim jetpack” which doesn’t connect to wordpress.com, you get most of the functionality with no loss of speed

Nice call @mark1mark. This has everything I need except Photon and the Comments. I guess I could always find a replacement for those. And my site trimmed a full second off the load time. Outstanding.

The same problem on my website. I really like Jetpack. So I have to try slim jetpack.

If you cannot narrow down the issue to a specific Jetpack module, or If you want to use Jetpack without connecting to a WordPress.com account, you could use Jetpack’s development mode, as explained here:
    http://jetpack.me/support/development-mode/

It’s basically the same as installing Slim Jetpack, except you’ll get all the updates as soon as we release them, without having to wait for Slim Jetpack’s plugin authors to update their plugin.
