    On http://www.dunmorecs.ie/index.php/energy-efficient-external-lighting/ the image we’re sending Facebook is https://i2.wp.com/www.dunmorecs.ie/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/IMG_20190627_170526-e1562104002725.jpg?fit=1200%2C896 per:

    <meta property="og:image" content="https://i2.wp.com/www.dunmorecs.ie/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/IMG_20190627_170526-e1562104002725.jpg?fit=1200%2C896" />

    Can you confirm if that is or is not supposed to be the featured image?

    Thanks for the quick reply.
    Yes, That’s the correct image. But it doesn’t appear on facebook!

    Unfortunately it’s ultimately up to Facebook which image it uses. We can attempt to tell it what to do via the og:image tag, but sometimes they just choose to ignore it for some reason or another.

    Thanks, I was hoping it was some simple solution. It’s so frustrating when you go to the effort of creating a post on WordPress, setting a featured image and then it appears on Facebook as text only.
    I’m finding it is leaving it out more than adding it.

    I tried checking http://www.dunmorecs.ie/index.php/energy-efficient-external-lighting/ in Facebook’s debugger at https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/sharing/?q=www.dunmorecs.ie%2Findex.php%2Fenergy-efficient-external-lighting%2F, and there it is showing the image. So based on that Facebook is fetching the image.

    If it’s not appearing in your actual shared posts, that’s definitely an issue on Facebook’s end. However, I also see the image if I try to share that post on my end, so it could just be that Facebook was slow to fetch the image.

    If you notice a post appearing on Facebook without an image, try running its link through that debugger as well – if it doesn’t show an image there, you can force Facebook to re-scrape the post, and that might cause them to pull in the image at that point.

    Thanks KokkieH,

    “If you notice a post appearing on Facebook without an image, try running its link through that debugger as well – if it doesn’t show an image there, you can force Facebook to re-scrape the post”
    Do you mean to run the facebook url in the debugger, it says that’s not allowed – Facebook URLs cannot be crawled.

    Actually found a work around… if the post fails to include the photo, I can go into Facebook published posts and then tell it to refresh share attachment. Not ideal, but at least it corrects the missing image.

    Therefore definitely a Facebook problem. I would just love to know why it fails sometimes and not other times. Thanks everyone for the help.

    No, the URL for your post.

    That does basically the same as rescraping a link in the debugger, except that works for already-shared links, where doing it in the debugger will only have an effect on new shares of the link.

    There I’m afraid I can’t help 🙂
