Hi, Just a quick question, even with the new dev mode in Jetpack, I am having to turn off Photon on my Local dev server in order to get my images to display. Shouldn't the dev mode take care of this?

Photon requires a connection to wp.com to function, so no.

All the dev mode currently does is suppress the notice to connect to .com and let features which do not require any sort of .com connection to function.

Right, I thought it would ignore the fact that Photon was enabled when on a local dev so that you don't have to keep turning it on and off when syncing between local dev and online site. Seems like this would be a good upgrade.

You shouldn't be able to activate Photon at all. I'm not sure how Photon was enabled in your local environment.
Could you walk me through the steps you follow to sync your dev and production sites? Do you copy your production database into your local machine? If so, you might want to exclude the jetpack_options row from the copy, to avoid mix-ups between your testing and production sites. This row can be found in the *_options table.
