 * Hi guys, I have a wordpress hosted on a free server. I installed the wordpress
   myself however, as the site does allow FTP. I have tried using the wordpress
   interface to add the jetpack plugin and its hanging up at “downloading jetpack”
 * Also, Installing plugin from the plugin install form takes me to an error page
   that states: “Are your sure you want to try this” and then the button says Cancel
   or Try again no real information about the error it encountered there either.

 * i’ve tried changing the permissions of the wp-content folder to 777 without any
   luck installing afterwards (thru either interface)
 * I just checked my hosts PHP Version and they are running 5.2.17 wordpress reccomends
   5.2.4 but is this THAT big of a deal? Sorry for the long post its actually a
   combination of 2 posts in a separate thread i had created in the general section
   of WP before I realized there was a jetpack plugin section.

 * Hi there,
 * first of all, please change the 777 permissions:
 * [http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions#The_dangers_of_777](http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions#The_dangers_of_777)
 * The exact permission that you should have depends on your server setup, but 755
   might be ok. Ask your host for help.
 * Have you been able to install other plugins? It seems that your host might be
   the root of this issue. Can you try manually installing the plugin, to see if
   that works?

 * Other plugins do work. I just installed one to make sure.
 * I believe initially the wp-content directory was CHMOD 755 but i changed it to
   777 to be safe, i’ll go back to 755 at the discretion of the link you provided.
 * I was wanting to simple install the plug in manually but when i extracted the
   zip i saw all sorts of wp-admin and other directories in there that look different
   than other (simpler) plugins which utilize a /plugin/ directory only (i didnt
   want to mix a bunch of files in my wp directories then not be able to remove
   them if the manual install failed)
 * plus i wasnt really sure a manual install would work seeings how it wasnt suggested
   as either of the two installation options.

 * Hi there,
 * Jetpack doesn’t have a wp-admin folder in it; you can see what the structure
   should look like, here:
 * [http://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/jetpack/trunk?order=name](http://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/jetpack/trunk?order=name)
 * How about uploading the zip file using the Plugins installer (Plugins -> Add
   New -> Upload)? Try that and tell me what happens.

 * I tried that initially, and got this: [http://i42.tinypic.com/2uizoqp.jpg](http://i42.tinypic.com/2uizoqp.jpg)
 * but i’ll be damned there sure arent any wp-admin folders in there i dunno where
   i dreamed that up from.
 * Also, simply uploading via ftp resolved this issue entirely. I almost went this
   direction first but wanted to try the new interfaces yall included in the program.
   I am very stoked to use jetpack, thanks for the support.
