• Hi there,

I’m attempting to link Jetpack to select social media websites (via publicize) so that I can activate the auto-post blog post feature. I seem to keep getting the following message and error code.

‘Something which should never happen, happened. Sorry about that. If you try again, maybe it will work. Error code: -10520’

I read the post about publicize and facebook regarding open graph meta tags, but as far as I can tell from the Facebook debug – these have been generated… A bit stumped at the moment. Any help / advice appreciated.

The issue is that your site isn’t properly connected to our servers at the moment.

Can I have you disconnect and reconnect Jetpack to your WordPress.com user account? To disconnect/reconnect Jetpack, go to Jetpack -> Jetpack in your site’s dashboard. Then, click the My Jetpack button and on the next screen, click the “Disconnect site from WordPress.com” button as shown here: http://d.pr/i/1leC0

Click that, then reconnect to WordPress.com when you see the prompt to do so.

If that doesn’t help, the first thing to check is whether any other plugins on your site may have a conflict. Please check our Known Issues list here:
    http://jetpack.me/support/getting-started-with-jetpack/troubleshooting-tips/

You can also try to deactivate all plugins (leaving Jetpack active) on your site. Then, try to connect again. If the issue is resolved, activate your plugins one at a time to determine which is causing the conflict.

If that doesn’t help, please rule out a theme conflict by temporarily changing your site’s theme to a default theme (such as Twenty Fifteen) and trying again to connect.

Let me know if you still have this problem after following all these steps and I’ll be happy to take a closer look.

    Hi there,

Thanks for your reply. I first tried to disconnect and reconnect as per your instructions and even though I experienced no problem with that, I still received the same error when trying to connect to social media.

I then went about deactivating all non-essential plug-ins. This was interesting, as after this I couldn’t connect jetpack. I was getting the following message instead:

‘Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com ‘register_http_request_failed’. This usually means that something is incorrectly configured on your web host’.

After re-activating all plug-ins, I was still receiving the above error and not the ‘-10520’. Do you think there is an issue server-side, that might be blocking Jetpack? If so, how do I go about informing them want to let through?

    Kind regards.

Yes, that -10520 error indicates a connection error between your site and our servers. I just confirmed that your site is not connected – you can check for yourself here:
    https://jetpack.com/support/debug/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.advent-im.co.uk%2F

If the connection is working properly, you should see an “Everything looks great!” message.

That token error indicates the authorization token was not set upon activation. You can try deleting and reinstalling Jetpack from your dashboard and see if that shakes it out. Otherwise, you would need to contact your host to check to see if they’re blocking any incoming or outgoing connection requests from our servers on WordPress.com. Until that overall connection issue is resolved, you won’t be able to connect Publicize as those connections require the overall connection to be working.

Let me know if you have any questions.
