After upgrading to version 2.2 jetpack has disappeared from the Dashboard.
I tried de-activate and activate again, no good. I tried re-installing, no good.
Mind you its working in the background because I can see the bar on top of the Dashboard in the black strip and once clicked I can access the stats, but I cannot get it to appear on the Dash.
Site stats in the middle of the page (Dashboard) is also showing, meaning that it is working and connecting to wordpress.com ok but…

    WP version 3.5.1

Do you use any other plugins that may affect the way admin menus are displayed on your site?
Could you try deactivating all plugins, one at a time, in order to find out if one of them conflicts with Jetpack?

    Thanks!

Thanks Jeremy and I have done that after your suggestion. It seems that “Contact Form DB” after the upgrade to v2.5 has conflicted with Jetpack.

I cannot disable Contact Form DB because I am collecting information from users. However I will report the problem to them. But I am not sure whether its Jetpack that needs to fix the issue here, or Contact Form DB ?

    Can you elaborate please?

I’m not sure this plugin is entirely necessary when using Jetpack Contact Forms, since the forms are already stored in your database, and can be accessed through the “Feedbacks” menu.

I tried installing the plugin on my test site though, but I couldn’t reproduce the issue. Both plugins seem to work fine, and both menus appear in my dashboard:

Could you try to delete all Jetpack and Contact Form DB plugin files, and then try to install both plugins again?

    Hi Jeremy,

Tried it, no joy. Deleted Jetpack and re-installed, no good. Deleted Contact form DB and re-installed same issue. Re-installed WordPress 3.5.1 no joy.

I am using Contact Form DB because of the features it has, like downloading database contents in Excel Spreadsheet format which is great. Other features also exist with Contact Form DB, like being able to display DB Content in a table like manner on any page / post.

I’m not sure why I can’t reproduce the problem on my end. Could you try to disable other plugins, just to make sure the conflict is not caused by a combination of different plugins?

I think this is beginning to look like a problem with Jetpack.

I cannot get the Jetpack menu on the left appear in the Dashboard, unless I disable the Contact Form DB plugin.
Everything else I tried doesn’t make any difference.

The other thing, that looks like a questionable practice by Jetpack, is the fact that with every release, even though I have de-activated the Jetpack Contact Form (which has no where near the features of other forms) it gets automatically activated causing serious issues with other contact forms like ‘Contact Form 7’. Take a look at this page

I have about 10 different websites and in most of them Jetpack is being used, and I am grateful to the Jetpack team for their magnificent plugin work. But to try and sneak in features that people don’t want is morally wrong. Its the website owners choice what plugins to use, not anyone else’s and this I guess is an un-written expectation.

Webmasters should not be forced to choose. I thought this is the whole idea of WordPress, people working together to make this the greatest CMS.

I’d be happy to help you figure out what the problem is, but I’d have to reproduce the issue first. Unfortunately, I see both menus when activating Jetpack and Contact Form DB on my test site:

Do you have any other active plugins on your site?

We talked with Takayuki Miyoshi, CF7’s author, and we fixed this issue in Jetpack 1.9, so it shouldn’t be a problem anymore (see r547225 and r545957 for more information).

    Thanks Jeremy,

I have looked into this further and found that “Facebook Like Box” is also releasing Jetpack menu when deactivated.
I have removed “Facebook Like Box” and it seems to be ok now. Jetpack has its own Like Box and I am using that.
I guess I can set the status on this as resolved

I lost my Jetpack from my dashboard after upgrading to WordPress 3.8 today. I am unable to reinstall Jetpack as the directory already exists.

@in2jazz Could you try to log in to your site via FTP, delete the existing Jetpack plugin folder, and reinstall Jetpack manually as explained here:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Managing_Plugins#Manual_Plugin_Installation

If that doesn’t help, please start your own thread, as per the Forum Welcome, and give us more details about the errors you get when activating Jetpack, or when connectin it to your WordPress.com account:

    Thank you!
