I was using the jetpack plugin but I was finding that there were permission changes in directories. I could not update the plugin and had to do it through FTP. When I deleted the plugin it left 3 directories that you cannot delete. I would like to know how I can get this plugin deleted from my site. I do not want it there. It will not let me delete even when I change the permissions on it. It has 755 but it won’t allow it to be anything else. I also tried 644 and it still will not allow any changes. Does someone know how to remove it completely?
    The three directories are:
    wpcom-test-backup
    wp-content
    admin-plugins

Thanks in advance for your help!

Those directories were _inside_ the /wp-content/plugins/jetpack/ directory?

If so, they are definitely not part of Jetpack, and I recommend contacting your hosting provider’s support to remove them.

Thank you for your prompt response! I could have responded earlier but I found the email in the junk folder. 🙁
I was doing a search online to see if there was a way to remove the directories within the plugin and I saw there were other people who wrote about the same thing (not being able to remove the plugin completely and they had the same issue). I believe it may also require a look at the plugin if it’s a vulnerability. Once those directories are created it blocks jetpack and some other plugins from updating. If a person does not know how to update through FTP you are stuck with an outdated plugin.

I hadn’t seen that before either. Could you send more details? Your host can help you delete those files, by the way. If you have other information about them (what’s in them, etc.) that would be helpful too.

There is nothing in them but they can’t be deleted. That is the strange part! They are 1 in another until the last “admin-plugins”. Like this:

    plugins/jetpack/wpcom-test-backup/wp-content/admin-plugins

That is definitely not a directory in a normal installation of Jetpack. You can compare with a fresh Jetpack download from https://wordpress.org/plugins/jetpack/

I recommend asking your hosting provider’s support to delete those for you, then just re-installing Jetpack.
