Jetpack 3.4.2 tiled gallery columns still not working on server

On a local installation of WP the tiled gallery feature works fine and as expected. However when the site is uploaded to a shared hosting environment, in this case BlueHost, the gallery collapses to a single column.

I tried such obvious things as recreating the gallery, removing and reinstalling JetPack, etc.

I can, of course, use other gallery plugins. The simplicity of jetpack is appealing, if I can get the gallery to work.

Suggestions appreciated.
