  • New to WP. Just about finished the site. Tried to remove the footer but I have screwed things up somewhere. When I log in to WP, enter my user name & password then hit enter, I just get a white screen, no header page, no dashboard, nothing.

If I type the site name into google, its finds it OK & the site looks all OK. I just can´t get into it myself now & use the dashboard.

I have tried retracing my steps to see what I did. I deleted the html code in the footer php file. (I know, I´ll keep a copy of this elsewhere next time before I delete anything!)

  • What theme are you using? You can download a new copy of the theme to your local computer, and then, using FTP, replace the footer.php file with a new copy.

I have used Clean Retina. I thought it might work if I deleted the current theme, then reloaded again. What has got me vexed, is I cannot find a way of getting the door open so I can access the dashboard, to do the delete & reload. When I tap in the WP login page comes up OK. I enter my User name & p word, hit enter, then all goes white & disappears. There is nothing at all on the screen. I´ve done something wierd.

Do you have FTP access (or another file manager system your host uses) – then you should be able to delete the current theme — and WP will then to to the default theme automatically:

OK, this is where I am now – please go gently with me!
I have accessed my site hosts control panel (laughing squid) & can see under the ´Edit Your Site` tab, FTP Server 2 then all my p words etc underneath. It says use this address.
So when I put my cursor over the address I expected the hand to appear & be able to click into it. I am missing something somewhere?
Thank you for your patience – I know I am close.
